Ottawa Life > Living in Ottawa

The Ottawa region is known for its natural beauty, leisure activities and recreational facilities. Golfing and skiing are two of the most popular activities in the area. Water sports are also popular because of the large variety of waterways. One of the longest networks of scenic recreational paths in any North American city runs parallel to the rivers. Additionally, there are many other recreation facilities available for such activities as boating, sailing, horseback riding, whitewater rafting, rock climbing, hiking, rollerblading, walking, cycling, canoeing, bungee jumping, hang-gliding and mountain biking.

With 29 museums (12 exhibiting national treasures) and a variety of live arts venues, Ottawa boasts the finest in Canadian arts, culture and history. Annually, it hosts over 60 festivals, including the internationally recognized Winterlude and Canadian Tulip Festival. Ottawa is clean, green and safe. Surrounded by three rivers and a 42,240-acre greenbelt, it is a place where relaxation comes easily. The Rideau Canal and the Gatineau Hills, both of which offer outstanding recreational opportunities, are only minutes from the downtown core.

Sports fans will enjoy the Ottawa Senators and the Ottawa Lynx. For fun and culture, check out the Casino du Lac-Leamy, the Corel Centre and the National Arts Centre. Other places of interest include Elgin Street, the Byward Market, Little Italy and Chinatown.
